Background

Stuart is an industry-leading Senior Counsel focused on best client outcomes in the face of litigation and beyond. For over the last two decades, Stuart has developed a significant practice in the field of employment law, industrial relations and labour law. He has been recognised as a pre-eminent Senior Counsel in Employment Law in the Doyles Guide over many consecutive years.

Appointed a Senior Counsel in 2011, Stuart has acted for and / or advised almost all of Australia’s major businesses, including in commercial law matters. He is a leading advocate who is also briefed in headline matters concerning fundamental issues framing Australian law, politics and culture. He has appeared in all Courts across Australia in a broad range of matters, many of which are landmark cases and now stand as important legal precedent.

Notably, Stuart was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia in 2019 for “significant service to the legal profession, particularly in the area of industrial relations”. He is the Secretary of the Samuel Griffith Society, a society dedicated to upholding the Australian Constitution, and was previously a Board Member of the National Portrait Gallery.
