Daniel Gray

Daniel maintains a broad practice, with an interest in dealing with issues arising in public and administrative law, regulatory and compliance matters, and judicial and merits reviews. His core practice areas extend to the field of land and environment, planning and local government law, land valuation and compulsory acquisitions.

Of foremost importance to Daniel is ensuring that his clients receive high quality frank and fearless advice and representation that offers outcome-focused solutions, so that they are equipped to make well informed legal decisions. He is a committed and compassionate barrister who takes a collaborative approach to resolving complex and difficult disputes. Daniel is valued for his reliability and professionalism, and his highly developed interpersonal skills that allow him to forge strong relationships with instructing solicitors and clients.

With over two decades of combined experience as a Principal Legal Officer at the Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure, and Assistant Parliamentary Counsel at the NSW Parliamentary Counsel’s Office, Daniel has a rare and unique blend of experience in legislative drafting, statutory construction and in the provision of advice regarding delegated legislation and the exercise of power. His clients benefit from his deep understanding of, and the key drivers behind, important legislative instruments. Previously, Daniel was instrumental in the development and running of in-house mentorship programs, and has been widely recognised for his collaborative approach, leadership and knowledge sharing skills.

Daniel is a proud Wiradjuri man and has had extensive involvement in the evolution and advancement of Aboriginal cultural heritage, and the relationship between the protection of this heritage and the NSW planning system. He holds a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Business (Computing and Information Management). He was admitted as a legal practitioner in 2005 and was called to the NSW Bar in 2025.
