He achieved a higher distinction (A+) for his Masters dissertation in the field of constitutional law completed under the tutelage of Professor Lance Liebman, former director of the American Law Institute, and Professor Akhil Reed Amar of Yale University, one of the leading constitutional law scholars in the USA.
Tom was awarded a James Kent Scholars prize at Columbia for graduating in the top percentiles in a class of over 200 law students. He was also an award recipient of the Parker School at Columbia University for achievement in the fields of international and comparative law.
He also graduated with higher distinctions in his majors in his science degree from the University of Western Australia, and in his economics degree from Murdoch University. Tom was awarded the Vice Chancellor's Commendation for Academic Excellence for finishing in the top 2% of the BEcon degree.
After completing his honours thesis in science, Tom worked as a researcher in the environmental chemistry section of the Fisheries Department, and then in the private sector for a company that was awarded Australian exporter of the year - in which he was singled out for his contribution to the development of the technology that underpinned the company’s success.
Tom thereafter worked in the national law firm of Gadens Lawyers in the area of general litigation. He was called to the Bar in NSW in 2003 and has practised at State Chambers in Sydney since that time. Tom is also a member of the WA Bar Association. He speaks Italian as a first tongue and has provided oral and written legal advice in that language.
Tom has appeared led and unled in the Federal and Supreme Courts (in both first instance and appellate matters), and will accept briefs in all areas of the law.
